I'm sure all of you have probably not heard of this. But Sonic GDK is a engine that allows you to make your own Sonic The Hedgehog games.
GDK stands for Game Development Kit. The engine compared to others, such as Sonic Freerunner, and Blitz has higher standards, graphics, and a higher consistency and framerate.
You can do anything with the engine, add rings, power ups, badniks, character models from Sonic games, and design your own fan made levels. You can also construct 2.5D, and 3D sections in your level, similar to the gameplay of Unleashed's day stages, Colors, and Modern Sonic's gameplay in Generations. Sonic also has all the same moves from the games, including the spin dash, boost, stomp, jump, homing attack, and all the others. Super Sonic can also be used in the engine through a specific code in the code inserter of the engine. These are some levels made with SonicGDK, demonstrating it's power. I'm pretty sure Freerunner uses GDK now, lol. Anyway, I think that GDK is awesome.
I feel it's full potential has not even been reached yet! One thing this engine has is proper 3d Sonic rolling physics, and I have not never seen this get properly used yet in a level. Barren Mountain looks visually amazing, but it's linear as crap and spams dashpads. Still waiting for someone to make a nice open-ish level with lots of slope-y terrain to use rolling physics.
But anyway, GDK. Awesome, versatile engine! They just need to improve controls to make it easier to platform.

SonicGDK (short for 3D Sonic Games Development Kit) is an impressive Unreal Development Kit powered Sonic The Hedgehog game creation tool which allows users to create some seriously impressive Sonic games (much better than the tat SEGA have been making lately anyway!) SonicGDK gives you access to 3 versions of Sonic (Classic, Generic & Modern) with super forms, power-ups, badniks, special moves, controller support, checkpoints, bumpers, spikes and various other traps – basically everything you need to make a Sonic game. IMPORTANT NOTES FOR INSTALLING SonicGDK: 1. Download the latest version of SonicGDK 2. Visit and download the “JULY 2013 UDK BETA” release.
Execute the downloaded.exe file and follow the instructions (choose UT3-derived game project, ignore Perforce options). After the installation process, close the UDK Editor if it’s opened. Copy the SonicGDK’s folders Development and UDKGame and the.bat files to the UDK directory. Run the Unreal Frontend tool ( Binaries UnrealFrontend.exe), click on the “Script” button and choose the “Full recompile” option from the list. Close the Unreal Frontend tool; installation is complete. Run the game or the editor through the.bat files.
The first time that you open the test map, it will compile all the material shaders and take a really long time. You’ll find more info on SonicGDK on IndieDB and the Wiki page.
